About the Event

Encinitas Oktoberfest Celebrates 30 Years of Bavarian Fun by the Beach

Where else can you experience Bavaria with ocean breezes, craft beer, surf-town vibes, and dogs in lederhosen? On Sunday, September 27, the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and Visit Encinitas will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved Encinitas Oktoberfest - a free, family-friendly coastal twist on the traditional German festival that has become one of Southern California's most unique fall events.

Held in the laid-back beach town of Encinitas, the annual celebration blends authentic Bavarian traditions with distinctly California cool. Think steins of German beer, sizzling bratwurst, live oompah music, artisan shopping, a dog costume contest, craft beer gardens, kids' activities, dancing in the streets, and thousands of festivalgoers celebrating under sunny coastal skies.

More than 10,000 attendees are expected for this year's milestone event, which spans several blocks and transforms Encinitas into a vibrant open-air festival celebrating both the city's German roots and its eclectic surf-town personality.

"Encinitas Oktoberfest is unlike any other Oktoberfest celebration in California because it blends authentic Bavarian tradition with our relaxed coastal lifestyle," said Carol Knight, CEO of the Encinitas Chamber of Commerce and Visit Encinitas. "For 30 years, this event has brought together locals and visitors for a day that's festive, family-friendly, community-driven, and uniquely Encinitas."

The event traces its roots back to the German farming community that founded Olivenhain in 1884, giving the festival an authentic historical connection rarely found at Southern California Oktoberfest celebrations.

From lederhosen and local craft beer to live music and beach-town energy, Encinitas Oktoberfest has become a signature fall tradition and destination-worthy experience for visitors throughout California.
