Downtown San Diego’s premier destination for coastal cuisine and craft cocktails, Lionfish’s new offerings showcase Ruiz’s commitment to sustainable seafood, premium ingredients and flavors inspired by the region’s vibrant culinary scene.
New starters include Mexican corn soup, made with lime, chili powder, roasted corn and micro cilantro, priced at $18; albacore crudo with green papaya, spiced nuts, crispy shallots, lemongrass Thai dressing and cilantro, priced at $24; and short rib skewers, featuring three Korean-style Bulgogi skewers finished with green onion cauda, priced at $27.
New entrées include swordfish katsu, served with a cabbage and mustard green salad, takuan, creamy karashi mustard and tonkatsu sauce, priced at $48; a 14-ounce New York strip accompanied by bone marrow, charred rapini, crispy onions and wasabi demi, priced at $79; and scallops and pork soup dumplings with bok choy, garlic crunch broth and green onion, priced at $46.
The sushi program introduces two new specialty rolls: the Hannya, made with spicy tuna, cucumber, yamagobo, kampachi, big eye tuna, avocado, bubu arare and nikiri, priced at $26; and The Lunatic, featuring soft shell crab, blue crab mix, yamagobo, seared albacore, avocado, ikura and matcha ponzu, priced at $32.
Additional menu additions include king trumpet mushrooms served with gochujang barbecue sauce, a poached egg and chives, priced at $17.
Lionfish has also expanded its weekday happy hour menu, available from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with the addition of hand rolls, priced at $9 each. Wrapped in soy paper, options include baked crab with crispy onions and spicy aioli; Bang Bang Shrimp with scallions and spicy aioli; spicy tuna with cucumber, sprouts and spicy aioli; and veggie with avocado, cucumber and sprouts. The happy hour menu also features favorites like Peking duck bao buns, priced at $11; Korean-style chicken wings, priced at $11; and Kumiai Baja oysters, priced at $1.50 each.
