About the Event

Grand American Ballet with the collaboration of choreographer Betzi Roe is proud to present "Remembrances of California Ballet Repertoire": award winning, audience favorite contemporary ballets ‘79-’93.

In appreciation of California Ballet's Founder Maxine Mahon for her contribution to dance in San Diego.

The Seven Dances and Choreographers
Albinoni Adagio (Charles Bennett/1979): Earned a silver medal at the International Ballet Competition, Varna in 1980; performed by Victoria Jenkins and Murillo Barbosa (Grand American Ballet & Golden State Ballet)

Dos (Betzi Roe/1992): earned an honorable mention at The International Ballet Competition, Helsinki 1992; performed by Ariana Gonzalez and Iago Breschi (City Ballet)


Valse Triste (Patrick Nollet, 1974): created for 3's Co. and became part of the repertoire of California Ballet Co.; performed by Emma Sherman and Lucas Athaide (California & City Ballet)

Untitled Duet (Paul Koverman 1990): created for California Ballet Co.& Stage 7 Dance Theater; performed by Lester Gonzalez and Natalie Palmgren (Grand American Ballet & freelance dancer)

The Separation (Paul Koverman 1995): created for California Ballet Co. & Stage 7 Dance Theater; performed by Visionary Dance Theater

Excerpt from The Mist Leaves No Scar: (Jean Isaacs 1977) created for 3's Company and later performed by California Ballet Co.; performed by Barrett Bartolomei (BalletCenter), James LaRose, Devonte Murphy, and Drew Ornelas (Visionary Dancer Theater)

Dry Roses (Betzi Roe 1993) created for the 25th Anniversary concert and became a staple of California Ballet Co. repertoire for two decades; performed by California Ballet and City Ballet of San Diego dancers

As part of the City Heights Initiative, a public/private partnership between the city and Price Charities, the two-story library building and neighboring park opened in November 1998. The City Heights/Weingart Branch Library serves one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in San Diego and is the busiest city library for public computer usage. Connected to the library is the Performance Annex, a black box theatre that offers a variety of dance and music performances, along with lessons for adults and children. The Performance Annex is the only theatre that the city owns and operates.
