Closing Reception & Artist Talk: 'The Grand Performance'
About the Event
Celebrate the final night of "The Grand Performance" at our closing reception on Saturday, October 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This closing event is the public's last opportunity to view new works by Josie Marlyn Gomez that deeply reflect on ego death, rebirth, and the weight of grief. Through recurring patterns and cinematic references, Gomez builds a rupture in her generational lineage, exploring the friction between vulnerability and a shield through the motif of masquerade.
The exhibition prominently features a hand-crafted mask carved by Álvaro Octavio Muñoz Scott from Jalpa, Zacatecas, the hometown of the artist’s family. A major highlight of the evening will be an exclusive Artist Talk at 6 p.m., giving attendees a chance to hear firsthand insights from Gomez about unmasking, honoring past identities, and confronting the self, followed by a Q&A.
Don't miss this final celebration to meet the artist, browse the remaining works for acquisition, and enjoy an evening of art and community. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served. The materials for "The Grand Performance" were proudly funded through mutual aid support from Campana Studios.
